I walked in the woods on a quiet morn Dappled with sunshine and dew. My mind full of wond’rings ‘bout why I was born, When began my encounter with you. I froze the second I saw your face, Agape, I dared not stir. I whispered, frozen in one place: “Let me not startle her.” ‘Midst sunshine and bird song you quietly graze In my woods at this quiet time. Have I entered your world in the morning’s haze Or have you entered mine? Descending slowly, down I sat On the forest’s floor of dew. Stopped on my path, on the ground I sat, I prayed, at peace with you. Your silent stillness calmed my face, Hushed all my senses too. Held in the spell of your silent gaze, My hushed heart cherished you. Hushed breath breathed out and now a pause, Before I breathe back in. Should my short breath your exit cause, That breath would be a sin. This is all my love, Dear One, It’s all the love I feel: Holding my breath on a dewy morn, Lest I disturb your meal. Still I sit on the dewy earth; The doe, long-flown away. “Thank you, Dear One, for feeding my heart By letting me see you today.
